The fluorescent hum of the precinct buzzed like an agitated hornet in my skull. It was late, the kind of late where the city outside seemed to hold its breath, waiting for dawn. But dawn felt a million miles away. Sarah Jenkins’s face, or rather, the ghostly impression of it, was plastered on my thoughts, a silent accusation. Blunt force trauma. No forced entry. A life extinguished in the quiet elegance of her Westend loft.
