The air in Daddy Kael’s study was thick with the scent of aged wood, dried herbs, and something else—something ancient and potent, like the breath of time itself. Dust motes danced in the shafts of sunlight that pierced the gloom, illuminating shelves crammed with leather-bound tomes and curious artifacts. Tolok sat opposite the elder, the worn cushions of the armchair a stark contrast to the plush seats of power he had begun to navigate. He had come seeking more than political strategy; he had come seeking the root, the source, the true meaning of the calling that had thrummed beneath his skin since childhood.
Daddy Kael, his face a roadmap of a life lived deeply, his eyes holding a quiet luminescence, steepled his fingers. He had seen Tolok’s arrival, a young man burdened by a nation’s weight, a leader forged in the crucible of foreign lands and then tempered in the fires of his homeland’s resistance. But he also saw the deeper currents, the spiritual undertow that pulled at Tolok, the ‘unseen crown’ that he was slowly, unknowingly, beginning to wear.
“You chase a phantom, my son,” Daddy Kael began, his voice a low rumble, like stones shifting in a riverbed. “You believe the fight is for the presidency, for the halls of power. But that is merely the stage. The true battle is not fought with ballots or speeches.”
