The biting wind whipped at my cloak, a stark contrast to the stifling silken robes I was accustomed to. Disowned. The word echoed in the hollow space where my family’s approval used to reside. It tasted like ash, bitter and sharp, yet beneath the sting, a strange, exhilarating lightness began to bloom. I had traded a gilded cage for the unforgiving embrace of the wild, and for the first time, I felt truly alive.

Elara’s dwelling was nestled deep in the Whisperwood, a place spoken of in hushed tones, a fringe of the world that the city’s polished towers and rigid traditions dared not touch. It was a small, moss-covered cottage, almost swallowed by the ancient trees, its chimney puffing a gentle plume of smoke that smelled of herbs and something wild, something untamed. As I approached, the door creaked open, revealing Elara’s silhouette against the warm, flickering light within. Her eyes, ancient and knowing, met mine, and in their depths, I saw no judgment, only a quiet understanding that soothed the raw edges of my exile.

“You are here,” she stated, her voice a low murmur that seemed to weave itself into the rustling leaves. “And you are… lighter.”
