The air in the Grand Hall of the Lumina Council crackled, not with the usual hum of controlled arcane energy, but with a raw, volatile tension that had been building for weeks, for years, it felt. My heart hammered against my ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the heavy silence that had fallen. My father, Lord Valerius, stood before the assembled council, his face a mask of controlled fury, his gaze fixed on me. Around him, the elders, their robes shimmering with ancient power, watched with an unnerving stillness. This was it. The reckoning.

“Kaiye,” my father’s voice, usually a deep rumble of authority, was strained, each syllable a deliberate cut. “You stand accused of defying the sacred lineage, of spurning the gift bestowed upon you, of consorting with forbidden arts.” He gestured to the intricately carved ceremonial staff leaning against the dais, the symbol of my intended ascension as a Lumina Weaver. It felt heavy, alien, a burden I could no longer bear.

I swallowed, the dryness in my throat almost unbearable. My hands trembled, but I clenched them into fists, drawing strength from the memory of the Whispering Woods, from Elara’s steady gaze, from the quiet hum of the wild magic that now thrummed beneath my skin. “Father,” I began, my voice surprisingly steady, though it shook with the magnitude of my words. “I do not spurn a gift. I embrace my truth.”
