The quiet in Grandma Anya’s room was a soft blanket, woven from the scent of dried herbs and the gentle rhythm of her breathing. Elara sat by her side, her small fingers tracing the smooth, cool surface of the wooden beads that rested in her lap. The necklace, usually a vibrant source of comfort, felt different today. It was a silent companion to the ache in Elara’s chest, a constant reminder of the fading light in her grandmother’s eyes. Grandma Anya’s breaths were shallow now, like little whispers of air, and Elara held her grandmother’s hand, a fragile butterfly resting in her own.

“It’s okay, Grandma,” Elara murmured, her voice a little shaky. She squeezed her grandmother’s hand, trying to send all her love, all her worry, into that gentle pressure. Grandma Anya’s eyelids fluttered, and a faint smile touched her lips. Her gaze, though clouded, found Elara’s.

“My sweet Elara,” Grandma Anya whispered, her voice raspy but filled with a familiar warmth. “Don’t you worry. It’s time for me to… to go home.”
