The familiar, comforting weight of the wooden beaded necklace rested against Elara’s chest, its smooth, cool spheres a stark contrast to the warmth of her grandmother’s skin. Each bead felt like a tiny, silent witness to the quiet breathing that filled the room, a gentle rhythm now growing fainter with each passing moment. Elara’s heart ached with a sorrow so deep it felt like a physical weight, a heavy stone settled in her stomach. She squeezed her grandmother’s hand, a silent plea for more time, for a miracle, for the world to simply pause.

Grandma Anya’s eyes, usually so bright and full of a gentle wisdom, were now clouded, her gaze distant, as if she were already walking on a path Elara could not yet see.
