The Gathering Storm
The dark magic intensifies, manifesting as shadowy beasts and corrupted lands. The dragon reign braces for an onslaught, the air thick with anticipation and fear.
The air, once crisp with the scent of pine and the clean tang of ozone from dragonfire, now carried a cloying, metallic odor, thick and unsettling. It was a smell that spoke of decay, of things long buried stirring in their graves, and it clung to Lyra like a shroud. Peace, that fragile butterfly, had fluttered its wings for a precious season, but now its delicate antennae twitched with an unseen dread. The whispers of the land, so recently filled with songs of harmony, had begun to murmur a different tune, one of discord and an encroaching shadow.
Lyra, Queen of the Dragons, felt it in her very scales, a tremor of ancient unease that resonated deep within her soul. It wasn’t the roar of a rival kingdom or the clash of territorial disputes; this was something far older, far more insidious. It was the scent of a forgotten evil, a darkness that predated even the oldest of the dragon clans, a corruption that sought to unravel the very fabric of their reign. It was the breath of the abyss, and it was growing stronger.
She stood on the highest peak of the Obsidian Crags, the wind whipping her dark mane around her face, carrying with it the unsettling aroma. Below, the Dragon Peaks, usually a vibrant tapestry of emerald forests and sapphire lakes, seemed muted, their colors leached away. A creeping blight was visible even from this height, a bruised purple stain spreading across the land, withering trees and choking the life from the soil. And with the blight came the creatures.
