Chapter 4
Awakening the Primordial
Lyra decides she must awaken Esmea, the mother of all dragons, a being of immense, ancient power. This legendary figure is the realm's last hope against the encroaching darkness.
The air, once thick with the sweet perfume of blooming moonpetal and the crisp scent of mountain winds, had begun to change. It was a subtle shift at first, a mere whisper of something alien threading through the familiar tapestry of dragon scents. Lyra, perched on the highest spire of her ancestral mountain, felt it in her scales, a prickle of unease that had grown from a fleeting thought into a gnawing certainty. The peace she had fought so hard to forge, the delicate balance she had restored to the dragon reign, felt fragile now, threatened by an unseen enemy. This new scent, sharp and acrid like burnt ozone mixed with the bitter tang of forgotten fear, spoke of an ancient magic stirring, a darkness that predated even the oldest of dragon lore.
Her amber eyes, usually alight with the warmth of leadership and a deep love for her people, were clouded with concern. She had brought order, yes, but this… this was different. This felt like the very foundations of their world were being tested. The younger dragons, their scales still vibrant with the flush of youth, were oblivious, their roars echoing playfully across the valleys. But Lyra, queen of them all, felt the tremor of an unspoken evil that resonated deep within her, a primal instinct screaming a warning.
"Rodarak," she called, her voice, usually a resonant melody, carrying a hard edge of urgency. It echoed through the cavernous halls of the royal aerie, a summons that would not be ignored.
