The air in this place hummed with a resonance I’d never encountered. It wasn’t the thrum of a bass beat from a club, nor the low murmur of eager patrons in the VIP room. This was deeper, more fundamental, like the earth itself was breathing. My sunglasses, usually a shield against the glare of the world, felt heavy, their dark lenses no longer a barrier but a window into something vast and unsettling. I stood on what felt like a precipice, though no ground was visible, only an inky expanse punctuated by distant, swirling nebulae of light. This was the heart of it all, the place where the artifact’s magic truly resided, and where, I suspected, my fate would be decided.

A figure coalesced from the gloom before me. Not a person as I understood them, but a form woven from starlight and shadow, shifting and reforming with an unnerving grace. It radiated an ancient stillness, a presence that dwarfed my own anxieties. This, I knew with a certainty that chilled me to the bone, was the arbiter.

"Victor," a voice echoed, not in my ears, but directly in the center of my mind. It was genderless, ageless, a symphony of whispers and chimes. "You have come seeking that which you have disrupted."
