The air in the hidden chamber, a forgotten alcove beneath the sprawling roots of the Whispering Woods, was thick with the scent of damp earth and nervous anticipation. We huddled around a flickering lantern, its meager glow casting dancing shadows that seemed to mock our resolve. This was our sanctuary, our secret war room, and tonight, it felt more like a tomb. The whispers of our latest setback had reached us, carried on the wind like a chilling omen.

“He… he just walked in,” Garun stammered, his usual boisterous demeanor replaced by a hollow, trembling fear. His vibrant clothes, usually a riot of color, seemed muted in the gloom. He clutched his lute case as if it were a shield. “He knew the passcodes. He knew *everything*.”

Fayeleen’s hand, usually so steady when she wielded her twin daggers, trembled as she reached out to grip Garun’s shoulder. Her elven ears, sensitive to the slightest shift in sound, were pressed forward, her usually bright eyes clouded with a deep unease. “Who, Garun? Who was it?”
