The clang of steel against steel was a deafening symphony, each blow echoing the desperation that had seized the armory. Dust motes danced in the shafts of light piercing the gloom, illuminated by the frantic flashes of magic and the glint of desperate eyes. I moved with a practiced fluidity, a dance of survival I’d rehearsed in my mind a thousand times, each parry and thrust a desperate plea for freedom. But today, the rhythm felt off. The usual, sharp precision of my movements was clouded by a gnawing anxiety, a cold dread that had settled in my gut the moment we’d breached these heavily guarded halls.

My eyes, constantly scanning, darted towards Fayeleen. She was a whirlwind of grace and fury, her elven blades a blur against the hulking forms of the Queen’s guards. Her movements were poetry, even in the chaos, a stark contrast to the brutish strength of our attackers. I’d seen her fight before, many times, but never with such raw ferocity. It was as if she was channeling all the pent-up frustration, all the fear, into each precise strike. And in her eyes, when they momentarily met mine across the battlefield, I saw a reflection of my own fear, a silent acknowledgement of the razor’s edge we walked.

My mission, the one I’d sworn to uphold, was to secure the hidden cache of weapons, the ones Fayette deemed too dangerous for her own soldiers, the ones that could tip the scales in our favor. Harmon had mapped them out, Garun had scouted the routes, and Fayeleen… Fayeleen was my unwavering shield, my most trusted confidante, the one who saw the fragile heart beneath the rebel’s resolve.
