The air crackled, not with the gentle hum of life Elara had come to know within the sanctuary, but with a violent, discordant energy. Lord Valerius stood at the precipice of the ancient grove, his dark robes billowing like storm clouds, his eyes twin pools of malice reflecting the chaos he wrought. Around him, the very stones of the sanctuary seemed to groan under the weight of his presence.

Elara stood a short distance away, her heart a frantic drum against her ribs, yet her feet were rooted to the mossy earth. Beside her, Sir Kaelen’s sword was a gleaming extension of his grim resolve, his scarred face a mask of unwavering protection. The ancient guardians, their forms shimmering with an ethereal light, formed a protective ring around the sanctuary’s core, their faces etched with a sorrow that Elara felt deep in her bones.

“So,” Valerius’s voice, a silken rasp, slithered through the charged atmosphere, “the little sprout has found her nest. A shame it will be so short-lived.” He gestured with a hand, and tendrils of shadow, thick and viscous, snaked out from his fingertips, lashing towards the guardians.
