The air in the Loremaster’s chamber was thick with the scent of ancient parchment and something else, something akin to starlight caught in amber. Aurora’s gaze, ever observant, traced the swirling patterns etched into the chamber walls, faint sigils that pulsed with an inner light. Blossom, beside her, practically vibrated with an eagerness that Aurora, despite herself, found infectious. She still clutched the smooth, worn stone the Loremaster had given her, its coolness a grounding anchor in this place of boundless wonder and unsettling mystery.
“The Unwritten Realm,” the Loremaster’s voice, a gentle murmur like wind chimes heard from a distance, finally broke the silence. Their androgynous form, cloaked in robes the colour of twilight, seemed to absorb the faint illumination of the chamber, making them appear both present and impossibly ancient. “It is a tapestry woven from dreams and forgotten tales, a place where the ink of imagination bleeds into reality.”
Aurora nodded, her mind a whirlwind of questions. She’d seen the enchanted forest, felt the strange pull of the talking flowers, and witnessed the ethereal grace of Whisperwind. Yet, understanding it all felt like trying to grasp smoke. “But why us?” she asked, her voice softer than she intended. “We’re just… ordinary.”
