The path ahead blurred, a hazy ribbon of dust and dreams unfurling before me. Each step was a gamble, a silent question posed to the ground beneath my feet. The air hummed with a thousand unheard conversations, a symphony of the unknown that both beckoned and warned. It was in this liminal space, where certainty dissolved like mist in the sun, that I felt the first, subtle shift. It was less a sound, more a resonance, a faint tremor deep within my bones that seemed to align with the very rhythm of the earth. This feeling, this quiet hum, had begun to surface more frequently, a gentle counterpoint to the cacophony of whispers that had thus far defined my existence.

The whispers. They were the Weaver’s calling cards, insidious threads spun from half-truths and outright falsehoods, designed to tangle and ensnare. Today, they took the form of a merchant caravan, its colorful banners snapping in a wind that carried the scent of exotic spices and something else, something sharp and metallic, like distant conflict. A woman, her face a roadmap of hard-won years, her eyes the color of faded denim, beckoned me closer.

“Lost, child?” she’d rasped, her voice like dry leaves skittering across stone. “The road is a cruel mistress, especially for those without a name. They say you arrived with the last storm, a babe born of lightning and sorrow.” She paused, then added, her gaze drifting towards the western mountains, a place I felt an inexplicable pull towards. “Some say you were cast out from the Sky Peaks, a fallen star seeking solid ground. Others… others whisper of darker origins, of pacts made in shadows.”
