Chapter 4
The Precipice of Revelation
A near miss, a careless word, or an unexpected encounter brings Elara's secret perilously close to exposure. The walls of her carefully constructed double life begin to crumble, forcing a confrontation with her choices.
The soft weight of Leo’s arm draped across my waist was a familiar comfort, a silent assurance that anchored me in the quiet dawn. His breath, a gentle rhythm against my back, spoke of a peaceful sleep, a stark contrast to the restless currents that churned within me. I forced my limbs to relax, to mimic the deep repose from which he’d just roused. He shifted, his arm tightening momentarily before loosening, his sleep undisturbed. A sigh of relief, silent and involuntary, escaped me. The tightrope I walked was frayed, and I was perilously close to the edge.
