The biting wind whipped across the desolate landscape, carrying with it the acrid scent of gunpowder and the mournful cries of the wounded. Sergeant Rossi, a man carved from granite and tempered by years of relentless conflict, surveyed the battered Italian lines with grim satisfaction. His face, etched with the harsh realities of war, rarely softened, and today was no exception. Each fallen comrade, each inch of territory lost or gained, was a personal affront, a stain upon the honor of Italy.

Ki Tanaka stood a respectful distance behind him, his gaze fixed on the distant, smoke-shrouded horizon. The sergeant’s pronouncements, delivered with the force of a cannon blast, were the soundtrack to Ki’s existence. Rossi embodied everything Ki was supposed to be: fiercely loyal, unyieldingly patriotic, and utterly devoid of sentimentality when it came to the enemy. Yet, beneath the hardened shell of the soldier, Ki’s heart ached with a secret that threatened to shatter the very foundations of his world.

"Dubois," Rossi spat the name like a curse, his eyes narrowing as he gestured towards a tattered French flag fluttering defiantly on a distant ridge. "They think they can break us. They think their fancy uniforms and their Galactic swagger can overcome the spirit of Italy. Fools." He turned his steely gaze on Ki. "You see this, Tanaka? This is what we fight for. The soil of our fathers. The blood of our brothers. There is no room for weakness. No room for doubt."
