The air in Marie’s opulent living room had grown thick, not just with the lingering scent of expensive lilies that mocked the stillness of death, but with a palpable tension. Pamela, her sharp eyes scanning the room as if searching for a misplaced piece of evidence, felt it crawl under her skin. The police had been and gone, their pronouncements of suicide leaving a bitter taste in her mouth. Suicide.
