Chapter 9
The Hermit's Cave
Seeking refuge, they find a reclusive hermit. His eyes hold ancient wisdom as he observes Anya, recognizing the mark of Eldoria's true heir.
The biting wind whipped Anya’s cloak around her, a meager defense against the chill that seeped into her bones. Elara, ever watchful, kept a firm hand on her arm, her gaze scanning the rugged, imposing mountains that loomed before them. They had walked for days, the familiar comfort of the forest giving way to a stark, untamed wilderness. Every rustle of leaves, every snap of a twig, sent a fresh tremor of fear through Elara, a fear Anya had come to understand as a constant companion.

The dream, the one of the grand castle and the shadowy figures, had been particularly vivid the night before, leaving her feeling unsettled and strangely homesick for a place she’d never known.
Elara squeezed her arm, a gesture of reassurance that was more for her own peace of mind than Anya’s. “Soon, little one. We must be careful. These mountains are not kind to strangers.” Her eyes, usually so warm and full of love for Anya, held a perpetual tension, a tightness around them that spoke of sleepless nights and gnawing worry.
