Chapter 14
Confrontation at the Throne
Anya confronts Seraphina in the throne room. Magic crackles as the usurper faces the rightful heir, the fate of Eldoria hanging in the balance.
The grand doors of the throne room, usually guarded by stern-faced knights, stood ajar, an invitation or perhaps a challenge. Anya, her heart a hummingbird trapped in her chest, stepped across the threshold. The air within was thick with an oppressive silence, broken only by the faint, mournful sigh of the wind outside. Sunlight, usually a cheerful visitor, struggled to penetrate the gloom, casting long, distorted shadows that danced like specters across the polished marble floor. This was it. The heart of Eldoria, the seat of power, the place where her destiny, or what remained of it, awaited.
Elara, her hand a steady presence on Anya’s arm, squeezed it tightly. Her face, usually etched with worry, held a new, steely resolve. The hermit’s words still echoed in Anya’s mind, a prophecy woven with threads of courage and sacrifice. “The blood of Eldoria flows within you, child. Do not let the shadow claim the light.” And now, the shadow had a name, a face, a throne.
Queen Seraphina sat upon the throne, a figure of regal coldness. Her gown, the color of a starless night, shimmered with an unnatural luminescence. Her hair, a cascade of raven black, was coiled in an intricate style that seemed to echo the sharp angles of her face. Her eyes, dark and piercing, fixed on Anya the moment she entered, a flicker of surprise quickly masked by a chillingly calm amusement. It was the look of a predator who had finally cornered its prey.
