Chapter 15
Chapter 15: A Different Kind of Love
Hanjin faces a choice: succumb to the obsessions or embrace the genuine connection offered by Kyungmin. He realizes that true connection, not control, might be his only path to salvation.
The air in Hanjin’s practice room was thick with the scent of sweat and unspoken anxieties. The rhythmic thud of their choreographies, usually a comforting pulse, felt discordant tonight, each beat a hammer blow against the fragile peace. Hanjin moved through the motions, his body a well-oiled machine, but his mind was a tempest. He saw it everywhere – in the way Shinyu’s gaze lingered a fraction too long, a possessive glint in his usually steady eyes; in Dohoon’s forced joviality, a brittle shell that threatened to shatter at any moment; in the hushed conversations that ceased whenever he approached. They were all circling him, a pack of wolves drawn to a wounded scent, and he, the puppet master, felt the strings fraying in his hands.
He caught Kyungmin’s eye across the room, a brief, almost imperceptible flicker. Kyungmin wasn't part of the frantic energy of the practice, his presence more of a quiet anchor in the swirling chaos. He was leaning against the mirrored wall, his expression unreadable, yet Hanjin felt a pull, a silent acknowledgment that transcended the performance. It was a stark contrast to the others, their desires loud and demanding, their affections a suffocating blanket. With Kyungmin, there was just… presence. A calm in the storm that Hanjin was desperately trying to weather.
Later, the cacophony of the dorm was a different kind of assault. Shinyu was in the common room, meticulously organizing photocards, his movements precise, almost rigid. Dohoon was sprawled on the sofa, scrolling through his phone with a bored air that didn’t quite mask the tension coiled in his shoulders. Youngjae, ever the observer, was attempting to read a book in the corner, his eyes darting between the two older members. Hanjin walked in, the silence that fell amplifying the thrum of his own unease.
