The air in the Grand Hall crackled with an unseen energy, a palpable tension that had been building for weeks, perhaps even generations. Sunlight, usually a cheerful guest, seemed to filter through the stained-glass windows with a somber, almost accusing glow, casting long, distorted shadows across the polished marble floor. Prince Salem stood tall, his regal bearing a practiced mask that did little to conceal the tremor in his hands, hidden from view by the heavy velvet of his sleeves. Beside him, Elara, her peasant’s tunic a stark contrast to the silks and jewels adorning the assembled nobility, held her ground with a quiet strength that belied the fear coiling in her stomach.

Lord Valerius, impeccably dressed and radiating an aura of controlled amusement, occupied the center of the semicircle of courtiers. His eyes, sharp and assessing, flicked between Salem and Elara, a predator observing its prey. Queen Isolde sat on her throne, her face a mask of regal composure, yet her knuckles were white where they gripped the armrests. The King, a man whose presence had faded with each passing year, remained a spectral figure in his own court, his gaze distant, as if observing the proceedings from another realm entirely.

"We are gathered here today," Valerius began, his voice smooth as honey, yet carrying the bite of a serpent, "to address the unsettling whispers that have plagued our kingdom. Whispers of disruption, of unnatural occurrences, and of a prophecy that speaks of a union that would shatter the very foundations of our lineage." He paused, allowing his words to sink into the hushed silence. "A union between a Prince of the Blood and… a commoner."
