Beside him, Elara, her brow furrowed in concentration, whispered words from the faded script, her voice a low murmur against the oppressive silence.

“It speaks of a ‘shadow born of ambition, cloaked in loyalty,’ who will seek to ‘unravel the tapestry of the crown for a fool’s gold crown of their own,’” she read, her finger hovering over a particularly dense passage. “The prophecy… it’s more specific than we thought.”

Salem nodded, a knot tightening in his stomach. For weeks, they had been piecing together fragments of ancient lore, fragments that hinted at a looming darkness, a threat not from without, but from within the very heart of the kingdom. The whispers of a prophecy had been a persistent hum in the background of his life, a vague unease he’d long dismissed as superstition. But Elara’s uncanny ability to decipher the cryptic verses, her intuition guiding them through the labyrinthine text, had transformed abstract fear into a chilling certainty.
