Chapter 5
A Shared Batch of Truth
Through the baking trials, Elias and Anya discover common ground beyond rivalry. Elias confronts his blind faith, while Anya sees past his clumsiness. A sweet, unexpected partnership begins to form.
The air in the competition hall crackled with a nervous energy, a stark contrast to the familiar, comforting warmth of Elias’s own bakery. He’d stumbled into this prestigious arena, a bumbling lamb among seasoned wolves, all thanks to a misplaced entry form and a rather insistent nudge from his… well, his heart. He imagined her thoughts: *This imposter. How did he even get here? Probably a clerical error. Or perhaps he’s here to provide comic relief.* The thought sent a blush creeping up his neck.
The first challenge was announced: a deconstructed Black Forest Gateau. Elias’s heart gave a little flutter. He knew Black Forest. He practically *was* Black Forest. He’d made countless versions, each one a testament to his love for the rich chocolate, the tart cherries, the ethereal whipped cream. But ‘deconstructed’? That sounded suspiciously… modern. And Anya, with her sleek, minimalist creations, was the queen of modern.
