Raab's Mother followed the path, the glowing scarf around her neck pulsing with a gentle rhythm that seemed to synchronize with her own heartbeat. The world around her continued its delightful, bewildering dance. Trees with leaves like stained glass shimmered, their branches reaching out not just for sunlight, but for conversation. Small, bulbous plants hummed soft melodies, their petals unfurling in slow, contented sighs.
She rounded a bend, and there it was, a creature of whirring gears and polished chrome, smaller than the service bots she’d seen in the city, but infinitely more expressive. It was a toy robot, no bigger than a cat, with large, expressive optical sensors that glowed a vibrant blue. It was currently trying, with great concentration, to stack a series of smooth, iridescent pebbles into a tower. Each time the tower wobbled precariously, the robot let out a series of high-pitched, frustrated beeps, its metallic fingers fumbling with delicate precision.
Raab's Mother watched, a warm smile spreading across her face. She remembered playing with simpler toys as a child, before the world became so… fluid. This little robot, with its earnest efforts and tiny sighs, felt achingly familiar.
