Chapter 19
The Reckoning
Phoenix, with Kael and the people of the hidden village, prepares to reveal the truth to the entire kingdom. Captain Borin faces a choice: uphold unjust orders or serve true justice.
The chill of the pre-dawn air did little to quell the nervous tremor that ran through Phoenix. But Phoenix knew, with a certainty that had solidified with every clandestine meeting, every whispered confession from the hidden village, that the foundations were already cracking. The illusion of peace was a far more dangerous burden than any revealed truth.
Kael squeezed her arm gently. "Are you sure?" he murmured, his voice low and rough, cutting through the silence.
