The scent of freshly baked croissants and strong espresso had become the perfume of my new reality. It wasn't the sterile, lemon-scented air of my old office, nor the suffocatingly perfumed aftermath of Mark’s attempts at reconciliation. This was Paris, yes, but more importantly, this was *my* Paris, a Paris painted in the warm hues of Antoine’s laughter and the comforting aroma of our shared mornings.

Our routine had a gentle, unforced cadence, like a well-loved melody. Each day began with the clatter of ceramic mugs and the soft murmur of French drifting from the kitchen. Antoine, ever the early riser, would already be at the small, sun-drenched table in our apartment, a worn sketchbook open before him, his brow furrowed in concentration. He’d look up as I entered, his eyes, the color of a summer sky after a storm, would crinkle at the corners, and a smile would bloom across his face.

“Bonjour, ma belle,” he’d greet me, his voice a low rumble that always sent a shiver of delight down my spine. Then he’d push a mug towards me, its contents steaming. “Your usual?”
