Anya clutched the worn edges of the map, its creases soft as old linen beneath her fingertips. The ink, once sharp, now bled slightly into the parchment, like memories softening with time. Sunlight, the kind that slanted through dusty panes and smelled of old wood and forgotten stories, streamed into Mr. Petrov’s shop. It was a place Anya had come to feel was as much a part of her rediscovered past as the map itself. The air was thick with the scent of dried herbs, beeswax, and something else, something akin to the quiet hum of contented time.

Mr. Petrov sat behind his counter, his hands, gnarled as ancient tree roots, carefully polishing a small, tarnished silver locket. His eyes, the colour of warm, dark honey, crinkled at the corners as Anya approached. He didn't need to ask what she wanted; he always seemed to know.

“Ah, Anya,” he said, his voice a gentle rumble, like distant thunder on a summer evening. “You’ve brought it with you.”
