Cornered and desperate, Lady Lilly resorts to increasingly ruthless tactics. Her fear of Rose and the prophecy drives her to actions that further alienate her subjects and expose her true nature.
The chill that had settled over the castle wasn't just the turning of the season; it was the palpable fear that bled from Lady Lilly. She paced her chambers, a caged tigress whose fury was matched only by her growing panic. The whispers, once easily suppressed, now seemed to claw at the very stone walls, murmuring of a prophecy, of a returning heir, of *her*. Rose. The name tasted like ash on Lilly’s tongue.
Her advisors, once sycophantic, now offered hesitant counsel, their eyes darting nervously towards the heavy oak door as if expecting Rose herself to burst through. “My Lady,” began Lord Valerius, his voice a strained whisper, “the unrest in the villages grows. They speak of the old ways, of justice, of… Eleanor.”
Lilly’s manicured nails dug into the velvet of her throne’s armrest. “Eleanor is dead!” she spat, the words sharp and brittle. “And her pathetic legacy will die with her. This ‘prophecy’ is a fabrication, a desperate hope spun by cowards to undermine my rightful rule.”
