Whispers of Treason
Lady Lilly senses a growing unrest and a potential threat to her power. She employs spies and enforcers to root out any dissent, making Rose's efforts to gather support increasingly perilous.
The air in the royal chambers, usually thick with the cloying scent of lilies and ambition, now carried a subtle tremor of unease. Lady Lilly, her raven hair pulled back in an impossibly severe chignon, paced the polished obsidian floor. Her emerald eyes, sharp as shards of glass, darted from the tapestries depicting glorious victories (all her own, of course) to the gilded bars of the window. Outside, the kingdom of Eldoria, once vibrant and brimming with life, lay muted, its spirit as dulled as the overcast sky.
“They whisper,” she hissed, the words like venom dripped onto silk. “I can feel it. A rot spreading beneath the surface. A discontent that festers.” She stopped, her hands clenching into fists at her sides. “And it will not be tolerated.”
A shadow detached itself from the deeper shadows near the hearth. Lord Valerius, his face a mask of practiced subservience, bowed low. “My Lady, your reign is absolute. The people know their place.”
