The air in Master Valerius’s secluded tower was thick with the scent of aged parchment and dried herbs, a stark contrast to the damp, earthy smell of Elara’s village. Outside, the wind howled a mournful tune, a constant reminder of the world she had been forced to leave behind. Inside, however, a different kind of storm was brewing – one of revelation and dawning dread. Valerius, his face a roadmap of ancient wisdom and etched sorrow, had finally lifted the veil on the true nature of Elara’s burgeoning abilities.
“It is not merely a flicker, Elara,” he had begun, his voice a low rumble that resonated through the stone chamber. He gestured towards a shimmering orb of light suspended in the air, a miniature sun pulsing with raw energy. “This raw power you possess… it is the lifeblood of our world. And it is being siphoned away.”
Elara had watched, mesmerized, as the orb’s light dimmed, a subtle but undeniable weakening. The vibrant glow that had filled the chamber moments before now seemed hesitant, fragile. Her own hands, resting on her knees, felt a strange resonance, a sympathetic tremor that mirrored the orb’s fading brilliance.
