A shiver, not of cold but of something far more unsettling, slithered through the air. It settled over the house like a shroud, dampening the usual boisterous laughter of the children and casting long, distorted shadows even in the midday sun. Leo, always the first to sense a shift in the atmosphere, felt it most acutely.
