The last rays of sunlight slanted through Lily’s bedroom window, painting the familiar room in hues of orange and gold. Everything was back in its proper place, just as it had been before our grand adventure. Barnaby Bear sat proudly on the pillow, his one good button eye gleaming with a quiet satisfaction. Slinky the Squirrel, usually a whirlwind of motion, was perched demurely on the edge of the toy chest, her bushy tail curled neatly around her. Even Professor Hoot, his spectacles askew as always, seemed to settle a little more comfortably on the bookshelf, a gentle rustle of his paper feathers the only sign of his presence.

It felt strange, this quiet. After the frantic urgency of our mission, the daring escapes from alley cats, the tense negotiations with Rusty, and the exhilarating race against time, normal felt almost… loud. But it was a good kind of loud, the comforting hum of a house filled with love and laughter. Lily was safe. Her home was safe. And our secret, the incredible tale of how a band of toys saved the day, was ours alone.

Barnaby let out a soft sigh, a puff of stuffing escaping his worn seam. “It’s good to be back,” he murmured, his voice a low rumble that only we could hear.
