A Race Against Time
The toys must get the folder to Lily's parents before they finalize their decision to move. They face a race against the setting sun.
The sun, a giant marmalade smear, was already beginning its slide towards the horizon, painting the sky in hues of fiery orange and bruised purple. We had the folder, clutched tight in Barnaby’s paw, but time was slipping through our little fabric fingers like sand. It felt as if the very air in Brightville was holding its breath, waiting.
“Faster, Barnaby!” Slinky chittered, her tail a blur of frantic energy as she darted ahead, then back, urging us on. Her usual playful mischief was replaced by a sharp urgency. We were no longer just toys on an adventure; we were messengers carrying Lily’s hope.
Barnaby, bless his stuffing, was doing his absolute best. His button eye seemed to gleam with determination, even as his worn paws thumped a little unevenly on the pavement. The weight of the folder, filled with Lily’s precious drawings, felt like a mountain on his small, fuzzy shoulders. “I’m trying, Slinky! These sidewalks are longer than they look!” he puffed, his voice a little strained.
