Professor Hoot explains the riddle in the storybook points to where Lily hid something vital for her parents' business deal.

Professor Hoot’s spectacles, perched precariously on his plush beak, glinted in the dim light of the attic. Dust motes danced in the single shaft of sunlight that pierced the gloom, illuminating the worn pages of Lily’s favorite storybook. It was a thick, leather-bound volume, its cover embossed with a faded gold crown. Barnaby Bear, his one good button eye fixed on the professor, felt a familiar flutter of anticipation in his stuffing. We had faced alley cats, a grumpy dog, and the daunting vastness of the junkyard, all for this.

“The riddle,” Professor Hoot began, his voice a soft rustle of paper, “is not merely a string of words. It is a key, a map, a whispered secret from Lily herself.” He tapped a clawed foot gently against a page. “Listen closely, for the rhyme holds the very location of what we seek. ‘Where colors bloom and dreams take flight, and whispers dance in soft moonlight, a hidden treasure, small and bright, awaits the dawn of morning light.’”

Slinky the Squirrel, her tail twitching with an almost unbearable urgency, hopped onto Barnaby’s shoulder. “Colors bloom? Dreams take flight? That sounds like Lily’s art studio!” she chittered. “She used to spend hours in there, painting pictures of rainbows and flying ponies!”
