The morning sun, a painter with a palette of liquid gold, spilled across the rolling hills and dappled the dew-kissed lawn of Brian House. It was the day of the community event, the day Grace had both longed for and dreaded with a trembling heart. The air itself seemed to shimmer with anticipation, a tangible hum that vibrated through the ancient stones of the house and settled in Grace’s chest. Chardonnay, a swirl of iridescent light, danced around her, her laughter like the tinkling of wind chimes.

“Can you feel it, Grace? The joy is practically bubbling up from the earth!” Chardonnay chirped, her spectral fingers tracing patterns on the lace curtains. “The roses are at their peak, the scent is divine, and even the old oak seems to be stretching its branches in welcome.”

Grace managed a weak smile, her hands busy arranging a bouquet of lavender and Queen Anne’s lace on the hall table. “It’s… a lot, Chardonnay. What if no one comes? What if they don’t like it? What if it’s all just… a disappointment, like before?” The old fear, a familiar shadow, coiled in her stomach.
