The Fluttering Suspects
The trail leads to a garden filled with butterflies. Professor Hoot suspects these flighty creatures. But these butterflies are quite forgetful and easily distracted.
The air, still humming with the frantic energy of the missing sugar cubes, suddenly felt a tad cooler as Professor Hoot adjusted his spectacles, which, true to his slightly forgetful nature, he’d just found perched precariously on the tip of his beak. "The trail, my dear Lily," he announced, his voice a low, rumbling hoot that seemed to vibrate through his fluffy chest, "leads us to the Fluttering Meadow. And who, pray tell, are the most frequent fliers of the Fluttering Meadow?" He paused, a twinkle in his wise, amber eyes, as if expecting an answer that would undoubtedly be incorrect.
Lily, her brow furrowed in concentration, looked from Barnaby, who was now sporting a rather fetching, albeit slightly askew, miniature monocle that had somehow appeared during their frantic search, to the agitated badger serving as host. "Butterflies?" she ventured, her voice soft but steady.
"Precisely!" Professor Hoot exclaimed, flapping his wings with delight. "Those fluttery, flittery, frankly *frivolous* beings. They have a penchant for anything that glitters, you see. And our sugar cubes, well, they do possess a rather remarkable sparkle, wouldn't you agree?"
