Blackwood Blooms Anew

With the darkness vanquished and the pact broken, Blackwood begins to heal. The thorny brambles regain their vibrant, menacing glow, and the forest breathes with renewed life and magic.

The air in Blackwood, once thick with the damp scent of decay and my own personal brand of gloom, now hummed with something utterly foreign: freshness. It was a scent like a thousand dewdrops kissing a freshly bloomed rose, only with a hint of something wilder, something untamed. My brambles, those formerly sad, droopy specimens of thorny despair, were practically *vibrating* with life. Their thorns, which had been dull and brittle, now gleamed like tiny obsidian daggers, sharp and proud, catching the colossal moon’s glow and flinging it back with a mischievous wink. It was… well, it was rather a lot.

I flexed my fingers, expecting the familiar, faint tingle of magic, but instead, a surge, a veritable tidal wave of it, coursed through me. It was like I’d been sipping lukewarm pond water for a century and had suddenly been offered a goblet of the finest, fizzing nectar. My grumpiness, that comfortable, familiar cloak I’d worn for so long, felt threadbare, almost ridiculous.

“Well, this is unexpected,” I muttered, my voice sounding oddly robust, less like a rusty hinge and more like a crisp bell. I poked a particularly plump bramble. It sprang back, almost playfully. “Honestly, you lot are getting a bit uppity, aren’t you?”
