The air in the bachelor party venue crackled with a tension thicker than the smoke from the cigars. Eli, clad in a defiant t-shirt proclaiming "Claire's Husband," had sauntered in like a storm cloud, and the tempest that followed had been biblical. Fists flew, bodies collided, and even Conrad, the usually placid brother, had been drawn into the fray. Then William, Claire’s doctor brother, had materialized, a whirlwind of authority, bringing the chaotic brawl to a stunned halt. Eli’s eyes were swollen, a testament to the brutal ballet of punches, and the others bore their own battle scars. William, his face a mask of fury, had delivered a stinging slap to Eli, reigniting the shouting match. Amidst the cacophony, Claire’s voice, sharp and cutting, had sliced through the din. "Eli is now banned from my family," she declared, her gaze sweeping over the battered men. Then, turning to Bright, her tone softened, though no less firm, "Bright, we need to talk. The marriage will continue."

Now, the dust had settled, or at least, it had been swept into a corner. Claire, her expression a mosaic of exasperation and a flicker of something softer, moved with surprising speed. She reached Bright, who stood a little apart, his jaw clenched, his eyes still burning with the residue of the fight. With a gentle hand, she tilted his chin up, settling him back into a seated position on a nearby chaise lounge. Her lips met his in a kiss that was both a balm and a promise, a silent reaffirmation that cut through the animosity. When she pulled away, her gaze shifted, landing on Eli with an intensity that made him flinch. "Eli," she began, her voice dangerously calm, "what were you thinking?"

The question hung in the air, a prelude to an inferno. Eli, still nursing a throbbing eye, opened his mouth, but no coherent words emerged. Instead, a torrent of frustrated, angry sounds spilled out, a guttural testament to his simmering rage. Claire’s eyes narrowed, a silent signal that the dam was about to break. And break it did. What followed was not a mere argument; it was a seismic event, a verbal cataclysm that engulfed the room. Eli unleashed a barrage of accusations, replaying every perceived slight, every moment of perceived betrayal, his voice rising to a fever pitch, laced with a desperate, possessive fury. He railed against Bright, against the wedding, against the very idea of their future together, his words a desperate, futile attempt to claw back something he felt slipping through his fingers.
