The sea air, once a sharp, bracing tonic, had softened into a gentle caress against the skin of the nascent Republic. It carried the scent of salt, of distant pine forests, and, now, the murmur of new beginnings. Ships, their sails bearing the emblem of the twin olive branches, a symbol Ioneus and Lagertha had chosen to represent peace and growth, bobbed in the harbor of what was once a forgotten cove. These were not warships, their hulls scarred by battle, but vessels built for commerce, their timbers gleaming with fresh polish, their holds ready to receive the bounty of newly forged connections.

From the high ramparts of the administrative building, a structure that had risen with remarkable speed from the earth, Ioneus watched the activity below. His gaze, usually sharp and analytical, held a softer, more contemplative light. The scar on his left hand, a pale line against his weathered skin, felt quiescent, a quiet reminder of the past he had so desperately sought to outrun. Beside him, Lagertha leaned against the stone parapet, her presence a grounding force. Her eyes, the color of a stormy sea, scanned the bustling scene with a mixture of pride and vigilance. Her carved wooden bird, nestled in a pouch at her waist, seemed to hum with the quiet joy of a world finding its balance.

"They are learning, aren't they?" Lagertha’s voice was a low rumble, laced with satisfaction. "The traders from the north, the artisans from the eastern valleys, even the emissaries from the western islands. They come not with swords, but with goods, with stories, with a desire to… connect."
