“You know, Doctor,” Mr. Croft rasped, his voice a dry rustle, “hearts are funny things. They hold so much, don’t they? Joy, sorrow, even the smallest of memories.” He managed a faint smile. “Like a tiny, hidden room where all the important moments are kept safe.”
