The air in the jungle grew thick, heavy with the scent of damp earth and unseen blossoms, a perfume that clung to Kenya’s skin like a second layer. Every rustle of leaves, every snap of a twig, sent a jolt of apprehension through her. They had been following the barely-there trail for hours, the canopy above so dense that only slivers of sunlight pierced through, painting the forest floor in shifting patterns of emerald and gold. Katie, ever the silent sentinel, moved with a fluid grace that Kenya envied, her eyes scanning the dense foliage, her hand never far from the hilt of her obsidian blade.

“Are you sure this is the right way?” Kenya finally ventured, her voice a hushed whisper, swallowed almost immediately by the immensity of the jungle.

Katie paused, her dark gaze meeting Kenya’s. A faint smile touched her lips, a rare glimpse of warmth in her otherwise stoic demeanor. “The carvings on the monolith pointed this way. And the energy… it grows stronger.” She tapped the smooth, cool surface of the Sunstone, nestled securely in the pouch at Kenya’s hip. Kenya felt a faint thrumming against her skin, a subtle vibration that seemed to resonate with the very pulse of the forest.
