It pulsed with a gentle, steady light, no longer the frantic, dangerous glow it had possessed under the Sorcerer’s influence. Beside her, Katie’s breathing was ragged, her warrior’s stance softening into a weary slump. The silence between them was heavy, not with tension, but with the profound weight of what they had endured, and what they had just discovered.
Elder Michelle’s voice, though frail, carried the resonance of ages. “The curse,” she began, her eyes fixed on the Sunstone, “was not a curse of destruction, but a curse of division. A ward, woven by the first guardians, to prevent its power from being wielded by those with impure hearts.” She looked from Kenya to Katie, her gaze lingering on each of them. “The Sorcerer sought to break this ward, to twist the Sunstone’s immense life-giving energy into a force of decay and dominion. But he misunderstood its nature. The Sunstone does not bestow power; it reveals it.”
Kenya’s brow furrowed. “Reveals it? But… the visions, the pain… it felt like a curse.”
