The air in the cavern was thick with the stench of damp earth and something far more ancient, a cloying sweetness that hinted at decay. Kenya felt it clinging to her tongue, a metallic tang that mirrored the knot of unease tightening in her gut. They had followed the cult’s trail into the belly of the earth, the flickering torchlight casting long, dancing shadows that seemed to writhe with a life of their own. Katie walked beside her, her usual stoic facade a little more pronounced, her hand never far from the hilt of her obsidian-bladed sword. Kenya found herself stealing glances at the warrior, trying to decipher the thoughts hidden behind those sharp, observant eyes.

“He’s here,” Katie murmured, her voice a low rumble that barely disturbed the oppressive silence. “I can feel it.”

Kenya swallowed, her throat dry. The Shadow Sorcerer. The architect of this madness, the one who craved the Sunstone’s power for his own dark ends. She clutched the leather pouch containing the stone tighter, its familiar warmth a small comfort against the encroaching chill. Elder Michelle’s words echoed in her mind: *“The Sunstone’s power is a reflection, Kenya. It amplifies what is already within.”* What was within her? Fear, yes, but also a stubborn resolve that had carried her this far.
