Kenya, still nursing the ache in her ribs from their last desperate flight, felt a tremor of awe settle over her. This was it, the place where answers might finally unfurl. Beside her, Katie stood sentinel, her gaze sharp, her hand never far from the hilt of her obsidian-edged blade. Even in the quiet reverence of the elder’s home, the warrior’s readiness was a palpable thing.

Elder Michelle, a woman whose skin was a roadmap of a thousand seasons, sat cross-legged before a small, intricately carved altar. Her eyes, the color of polished obsidian, held a depth that seemed to swallow the light. She gestured for them to approach, her movements slow and deliberate, like the unfolding of a sacred scroll.

“You carry the Sunstone,” Elder Michelle’s voice was a low hum, like wind through ancient ruins. “And with it, the weight of ages.”
