Lyra explains the artifact's nature and the encroaching threat. Kael, now burdened with this power, must learn to control it. They decide to leave the settlement to seek answers.
The lingering scent of ozone and scorched earth still clung to the air, a grim testament to the night’s ferocity. Kael, his knuckles raw and his lungs burning, watched the remaining villagers begin the somber task of tending to their wounded and salvaging what they could from the ravaged perimeter. The guttural roars of the beasts had faded with the dawn, replaced by a hollow quiet that felt almost heavier than the din of battle. Beside him, Lyra stood resolute, her crimson armor gleaming even in the pale morning light, a silent sentinel of their hard-won victory. Her gaze, however, was not fixed on the fallen monsters, but on the artifact clutched in Kael’s trembling hand.
"It is as I feared," Lyra’s voice, though soft, carried the weight of ancient knowledge. She gestured towards the pulsing gem embedded in the bronze casing Kael had found. "This is no mere trinket, Kael. It is a nexus. A conduit."
Kael’s brow furrowed. "A conduit for what?" He felt a strange thrumming beneath his fingertips, a subtle resonance that seemed to echo the very beat of his heart. It was a sensation both exhilarating and terrifying.
