The air in the Whispering Woods hung thick and cloying, a miasma of decay and forgotten things. Sunlight, once a vibrant visitor, now struggled to pierce the canopy, its rays fractured into sickly green slivers that danced like phantoms on the moss-choked ground. Twisted, skeletal trees clawed at the bruised sky, their branches laden with what looked like petrified tears. Kael felt a prickle of unease crawl up his spine, a feeling amplified by the oppressive silence that had fallen over the normally chattering forest. Even the insects seemed to have surrendered to the gloom.

“Elara, are you certain this is the right path?” Lyra’s voice, usually sharp and commanding, was hushed, her hand resting on the hilt of her sword. Her gaze swept the dense undergrowth, her warrior’s senses on high alert.

Elara, her brow furrowed in concentration, consulted a tattered scroll, its edges brittle and stained. “The ancient texts spoke of a grove, deep within this corrupted expanse, where the tears of the weeping willow are said to crystallize. It is here, or so the lore suggests, that we might find the resonance shard.” Her voice was calm, but a tremor of apprehension ran beneath its surface. The forest itself seemed to whisper doubts, weaving illusions from shadow and mist.
