The biting wind howled through the jagged peaks, a mournful song that echoed the desolation Kael had come to associate with the world beyond his settlement’s fragile walls. They had traveled for days, the path growing increasingly treacherous, the air thick with an unnatural chill that had nothing to do with the altitude. Kit, her stoic demeanor a granite mask against the elements, had led them here, to the very edge of her lost home.
"This is the Serpent's Pass," she rumbled, her voice rough as scree. She gestured with a massive hand, her gauntleted fingers brushing against a crumbling stone sentinel, a relic of a time when this place had been guarded, vibrant. Now, only the bones of a forgotten civilization remained, bleached by sun and time, and now, by something far more sinister.
Lyra, ever vigilant, scanned the surrounding cliffs, her sword drawn. "The rift's influence is strong here. I can feel it, a gnawing corruption in the earth itself."
