A Path to Resolution
Claire, guided by the ghost's fragmented memories and her own newfound empathy, searches for a way to lay the spirit to rest.
Claire, who had always prided herself on an uncanny ability to navigate life’s little bumps and bruises – or at least, to bulldoze right over them with a determined set of shoulders – found herself in a predicament that no amount of stubbornness could simply push aside. The forest, a place she’d always viewed as a grand, untamed playground, had turned into a decidedly grumpy, overgrown maze intent on keeping her. And the ghost girl, a wispy apparition who’d materialized with the subtlety of a foghorn in a library, was now her reluctant, spectral tour guide.
“Are you *sure* it was this way?” Claire whispered, her voice raspy with a mixture of fear and sheer annoyance. She’d been trudging for what felt like an eternity, following the ghost’s ethereal meanderings. The ghost, a translucent shimmer with eyes that held the sorrow of a thousand forgotten tea parties, floated a few feet ahead, occasionally pointing a translucent finger towards a particularly gnarly-looking oak or a patch of suspiciously dark undergrowth.
“It… it felt like this,” the ghost girl murmured, her voice like the rustle of dry leaves. “The air tasted like rain, and the moss was thick underfoot. My mother always told me not to stray too far, but I was… I was chasing a blue butterfly.” A faint, almost imperceptible shudder ran through her spectral form. “It was the most beautiful blue I’d ever seen.”
