Chapter 9
More Than Meets the Eye
Emily realizes the news reports were wrong. The Foley milliy's creations aren't monsters; they're born from its loneliness. Its power is a cry for connection, not destruction.
Emily watched as the Foley milliy’s ruby eyes, so full of a sorrow that mirrored her own secret fears, softened. The air, thick with the scent of pine and something wild and untamed, seemed to hum with a new energy. It wasn't the crackling, dangerous energy the news had described, but a gentle thrum, like a lullaby sung by the wind. The creature, so magnificent and terrifying in its whiteness against the stark snow, lowered its great head. The two horns, like polished ivory, glinted in the pale sunlight.

She held out a mittened hand, not in defiance, but in a quiet offering of understanding. “But… that last one. The little fluffy thing with the squirrel tail and the bird wings. It was just… confused.”
The Foley milliy blinked, a slow, deliberate movement that somehow conveyed a deep weariness. A soft rumble, like distant thunder, vibrated in its chest. It wasn’t a growl of aggression, but a sound of… acknowledgment. Emily felt a peculiar kinship with the creature. She, too, had felt misunderstood, her desire to solve puzzles and explore the unknown often met with sighs and admonishments.
