Chapter 7: A Gentle Offer
The air, crisp and biting, seemed to hold its breath as Emily stood before the magnificent, terrifying creature. The Foley milliy, a being of myth and hushed whispers, was no longer a distant news report or a shadowy figure in the snow. It was here, a tangible, breathing entity of pearly white scales and eyes like twin rubies, set in a face etched with a sorrow so profound it seemed to seep into the very snowdrifts around them. Emily’s heart, which had been thrumming with a mixture of fear and exhilaration, now settled into a steady, empathetic beat. She saw not a monster, but a creature in pain.
The Foley milliy let out another low, mournful sound, a sigh that seemed to carry the weight of a thousand lonely winters. It shifted its immense weight, its powerful tail swishing restlessly, kicking up small clouds of snow. The giant wings, folded against its body, twitched as if dreaming of flight, but there was no joy in the movement, only a restless yearning. Emily remembered the reports – the strange, unsettling animals that had appeared in the wake of its distress. They weren't born of malice, she felt it deep in her bones, but of a desperate, uncontrolled outpouring of emotion. If it was sad, what if… what if it just needed someone to understand?
